Does something have meaning, or do we give it meaning? To give glimmer to existance, to make it bearable and digestible. Meaning doesn't play such a bad role. But what lies at the heart of it? When is meaning born? Or how? Meaning: repeat it six more times and it does not mean anything any more. Evaporated.

All my works are characterized by a search for the essence of meaning. Preeminently I use repetition in relation to time to get to the heart of this. Monotone, insignificant gestures, repeated endlessly. Hour after hour, day after day, week after week. Imperturbably stamping, perforating, pricking, drawing a line with a ballpoint until there is no more ink. Completely trivial. All of this with a preference for banal materials and means, and the use of recognizable standards. Nothing must take away the view by which to get to a possible essence. Bare, barer, barest is the adage. Time, I realize, is a friend in the process. As well as the necessity to create the images yourself. Because exactly in labour lies the grain for a new work, a next step into the abyss. Scrapping and scraping all over again to banish illusory meanings, the codes we mistakenly take te be meaning. Desiring to touch the essence of meaning one day. Only to catch a glimpse of it would be nice enough.
